$1 Billion to Fight California Drought
$1 Billion to Fight California Drought – California’s legislature approved Thursday a one billion dollar proposal to speed water projects in the drought-stricken state.
Gov. Jerry Brown said California will have to urgently start working on improving irrigation methods, water storing and recycling, and added it is expected to be a long process.
After a fourth consecutive year of very little rains, more than 37 million Californians are now affected by the severe drought. The money will be used to upgrade the water infrastructure, provide food and water relief to hard-hit communities in the Central Valley in California, About $660 million is earmarked for flood control and prevention.
But despite the ongoing crisis and the new water conservation regulations that were put in place last week, a new poll from the state’s Public Policy Institute found that 66 percent of adults don’t think people in their area are doing enough to conserve water.
