1st Ebola Patient Diagnosed in the US Dead – A Dallas hospital spokesman says the first Ebola patient diagnosed in the United States, Thomas Eric Duncan has died.

Wendell Watson of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital says Duncan died Wednesday morning. He arrived in Dallas Sept. 20 from Liberia and fell ill a few days later. He was sent home with antibiotics after an initial visit to the emergency room at Texas Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, despite telling the health care workers that he had just returned from Liberia. When his symptoms worsened, he was taken back to the hospital Sept. 28 and had been kept in isolation ever since.

Over the past couple of days, his condition worsened, and the hospital said they started treating him with an experimental drug called brincidofovir, which had been tested for viruses like cytomegalovirus and adenovirus.

His partner, Louise Troh said, “His suffering is over ….My family is in deep sadness and grief, but we leave him in the hands of God. Our deepest sympathies go out to his father and family in Liberia and here in America. Eric was a wonderful man who showed compassion toward all.”

Others in Dallas could be in danger as officials try to contain the virus that has ravaged West Africa, killing thousands of people. Officials say 10 people had direct contact with Duncan while he was contagious.
