6 Ways Women Can Reduce Their Heart Disease Risk – A new study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology shows that women, particularly those in the age-group of 35-44, can reduce this risk for heart disease by making 6 changes to their lifestyle and diet.
After following 70, ooo women over a period of 20 years, researchers concluded that a few lifestyle and dietary changes can make a huge difference when it comes to women’s heart health. Researchers look at common risk factors, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, body mass index, physical activity, TV-watching habits and diet quality. They found that those who followed healthy practices in all these areas reduced their risk of heart disease by as much as 92%, and three-quarters of heart attacks in women of this age group could have been prevented if the women had switched to healthier lifestyles.

- Don’t smoke
- Limit your alcohol intake to 1 drink per day.
- Keep yur BMI (body-mass index) in the normal range: 18.5 to 24.9.
- Exercise for at east 2.5 hours a week.
- Limit watching TV for less than 7 hours a week.
- Eat a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, and low in red meat, refined grains and sugar.
