Box Office: Liam Neeson’s ‘Taken 3’ Scores Strong $1.6M Thursday Night – Liam Neeson’s Taken 3 opened to a strong $1.6 million Thursday night as it started rolling out in 2,499 locations. That bested the $1.5 million earned by Taken 2 on its first Thursday night in fall 2012, and is just behind the $1.7 million earned a year ago by Lone Survivor.
Based on those initial results, the $48 million film, produced by Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp and distributed by Fox, should have no trouble clearing $30 million and could hit $35 million.
Taken 3 re-teams Neeson with cast members Famke Janssen and Maggie Grace, and introduces Forest Whitaker to the franchise. Olivier Megaton returns in the director’s chair, while Besson and Robert Mark Kamen once again wrote the script.
