Bread Bonda is an easy recipe for a tasty and filling after-school snack for kids. Kids usually like both bread and potatoes and are sure to like this vegetarian snack. Use whole-wheat or whole-grain bread to add more natural fiber and nutrition.

Bread that is 100% whole grain usually contains brown rice and barley, and as such provides more protein, fiber, and other nutrients than multigrain bread which has ingredients like refined flour that are bad for you.

Servings: 2
Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 medium potatoes, boiled and peeled
  • 4 slices of bread
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 2 tbsp cilantro (coriander leaves), finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Vegetable oil for deep-frying

Preparation

  1. Mash the boiled and peeled potatoes. Add salt, garam masala, red chilli powder, and cilantro, and mix well and make golf-sized balls.
  2. Take some water in a medium bowl. Dip the bread slices one at a time, and gently press the water out.
  3. Place the potato ball in the center of the bread slice, and fold the edges together to make a tight ball, making sure the edges are sealed, so filling doesn’t come out when frying.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan, and gently drop the bonda into the oil and fry on medium heat until golden brown.
  5. Serve the bread bonda hot, with ketchup or a chutney of your choice.
