cabbage fritters

Cabbage Fritters have a delightful crunch and make a great addition to any appetizer platter. Cabbage seems like an unlikely candidate for fritters, but actually works quite well in this recipe. Serve with other appetizers, as these are best when consumed in small doses.

If you don’t much care for cabbage but would like to include it in your healthy diet, this is a great way to do it. Cabbage is rich in calcium and potassium and is great for preventing bone-loss and controlling high blood pressure.

Servings: 4-5
Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cabbage, chopped roughly (medium pieces)
  • 1 1/2 cups besan (chickpea flour)
  • 1/4 tsp cumins seeds, crushed into a coarse powder
  • 1- 1 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • Turmeric powder, a pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying

Preparation

  1. Heat the oil for deep frying.
  2. While the oil is heating, in a mixing bowl, combine the besan, salt, chilli turmeric, and cumin.
  3. Add the chopped cabbage, and mix well. Divide into 2 portions. Mix one portion with enough water to hold the ingredients together.
  4. Take tablespoonsful of the mixture and drop gently into the oil, and fry the cabbage fritters until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining fritter batter.
  5. Serve the cabbage fritters immediately, with hot tea or coffee.
