Chikungunya Virus in the US

Chikungunya virus has spread in the US. The number of cases from the mosquito-borne virus has risen from 41 to 114 in the past week, according to Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

Chikungunya causes a rash, fever, and extremely painful joint pains, and can last from 5 to 7 days. About 10% of those affected may continue to experience the aches and pains for several months to a year. Though painful, the disease is not fatal. There is no known cure, and if you contract the disease, doctors say that the best way to deal with is to stay indoors, so you don’t spread it, and take pain relievers and fever reducers and let it run its course.
