Children’s Foods High in Artificial Coloring

Many children’s foods are high in artificial coloring, according to new research.

Most brightly colored cereals that are marketed to kids have high levels of artificial dyes that are derived from petroleum. Many studies have indicated that children are sensitive to such dyes and preservatives, and suffer from attention and hyperactivity disorders.

Breakfast cereals like Fruity Cheerios, Trix, and Cap’n Crunch’s OOPS! All Berries had the highest levels of artificial dyes, with 32, 36, ad 41 milligrams per serving, respectively. They also had the highest sugar content, which can cause obesity and other health problems.

Other products like candies, cakes, and colored icings are also high in artificial dyes.

Though food and beverage companies disclose artificial dyes in the labels, they are not required to, and don’t disclose the amounts. More….
