Depression and Hypertension Linked to Memory Problems

| June 5, 2014 Comment

A new study shows that depression, hypertension, and lack of exercise are linked to memory problems in all ages. Researchers were surprised by the fact that even young adults were affected. The study was conducted by University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) researchers. They polled 18,000 people about their memory and lifestyle and health factors.

Depression, low levels of education, high blood pressure, and physical inactivity increased memory complaints in young adults (ages 18 – 39), middle-aged adults (ages 40 – 59), and older adults (ages 60 – 99). Even a single risk factor increased memory complaints. Of the 20% who had memory complaints, 14% were younger adults, 22% were middle-aged, and 26% were older adults.

Researchers hope that the findings can help healthcare providers and the general public to take preventive measures to decrease the risk factors. More….
