Dietitians and Obesity

According to some dietitians, obesity may affect their ability to counsel patients on nutrition and weight management. Others say that their obesity shouldn’t matter to patients, as it doesn’t affect their knowledge or ability.

This issue is hotly debated among registered dietitians. Some believe that people usually judge by appearance, and as dietitians, they are role models for the kind of lifestyle and behaviors that contribute to good health. Obesity can undermine this. Patients have a choice, and they might decide to go to dietitians who practice what they preach, rather than those who don’t, and are dealing with their own weight issues.
