Doctors Urge Early Vaccination as Flu Season Approaches

Doctors Urge Early Vaccination as Flu Season Approaches – Think it’s too early to get your flu shot? Think again! Flu season can begin as early as October and it can take up to two weeks for your body to gain immunity.

Doctors are urging you to get vaccinated early. “We usually recommend that once the vaccine is available which usually is about now you know end of August, September, October that children and adults should receive their vaccine and rather than wait and perhaps have a missed opportunity. Just get the vaccine,” said Dr. Sherman Alter.

Health officials also stress the importance of kids ages two to eight getting the live virus through the nasal spray because their immune system responds to it more quickly.

Most major retailers, like Meijer and CVS, can give flu shots on a walk-in basis.
