Dr. Oz was criticized in Congress for false advertising about weight-loss supplements. Dr. Mehmet Oz, host of The Dr.Oz Show, testified on Tuesday about deceptive advertising for weight-loss and other dietary and health supplements.

Dr. Oz defended his right to speak passionately about products he believed in, despite little data to suggest they help. According to Senator Claire McCaskill, doctors and reputed websites have a responsibility to weed out false advertisers who make claims about “miraculous” cures.

Dr Oz conducted his own clinical trial to determine the efficacy of the product, and results showed that women who used the coffee bean extract did lose two pounds, when compared to those who took the placebo and lost only one pound.

Dr. Oz said that his intent is to motivate people to lead healthy lives and he wanted to testify because he too wants to make such companies accountable for their claims. More….
