Eat Whole Grains Every Day to Live Longer – A new review by Harvard University researchers shows that eating a bowl of oatmeal may increase your lifespan.

The researchers looked at two studies that followed over 100,000 people over a period of 14 years, and asked them lifestyle questions about what they ate and how they lived, and found that those who ate at least 33 grams of whole grains (or a bowl of oatmeal) every day cut their risk of early death by 9% compared to those who didn’t. They also found that whole grains reduced the risk of heart disease by 15% but didn’t have any impact on cancer.

According to Qi Sun, one of the authors of the study, whole grains may protect the heart by lowering blood sugar and insulin levels, and each additional 28-gram increase in whole grains per day, could provide greater protection.
