Ebola Pup Receiving Care from Top Veterinary Team – The City of Dallas wants everyone to know that Bentley, the dog owned by Ebola-stricken nurse Nina Pham, is in good hands — the gloved hands of highly trained veterinarians, in fact.

Due to the outpouring of public concern for Pham’s cute-as-a-button pooch, Dallas Animal Services has been providing constant updates on his condition. Bentley’s growing number of fans are sharing photos of the dog playing with his team of carers.

Monitored for 21 days since Monday, the 1-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has been held in isolation at Hensley Field, a decommissioned air base.

Many were concerned that Bentley may be in danger — not just from the disease, but potentially from being put down. Spanish authorities euthanized the dog of a nurse who contracted Ebola as a precautionary measure. it is not known if dogs can contract Ebola or spread the disease to humans, though one study suggests that dogs can contract the disease but remain asymptomatic. Fortunately for Bentley, Dallas officials seem determined to keep him alive and is doing well.

The dog’s owner, nurse Nina Pham has been transferred to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) facility in Maryland for treatment, and is reported to be in fair condition.
