Florida Woman Gets Blisters after Making Margaritas

A Florida woman got blisters on her skin after making margaritas at her bachelorette party. Initially, she attributed the blisters to not putting on enough sunscreen, but when they started getting puffy on the third day, she found out after some research, that they were phytophotodermatitis or margarita burns.

A dermatologist confirmed it, saying that in her case, the limes acted as a photosensitizer, and when exposed to ultraviolet light, caused the sunburn. Citrus fruits like limes, lemon, oranges, as well as celery, figs, carrots, and dill contain photosensitizing compounds. Fortunately, the blisters are not serious and should disappear after a couple of weeks. More….
