Georgia Technician Sentenced for Falsifying Mammogram Reports
Rachel Rapraeger, a radiology technician at Perry Hospital near Atlanta, has been sentenced for falsifying 1,300 mammogram reports. The sentence includes 6 months in a detention center, 10 years on probation during which she can’t work for any healthcare field, and 12,500 in fines.
The technician pleaded guilty and said that she had signed off on the mammograms and sent out negative reports to 1,300 women, because she had fallen behind in processing the reports and didn’t want her supervisors to find out. She signed in as one of the doctors and falsified the reports to take care of the backlog of work. Unfortunately, there were ten women who later discovered that they had breast cancer, and would have fared better, if they had been diagnosed earlier.
Some of the victims, now recovering from cancer, feel that the sentence the technician received was too light for the crime. More….
