Health Insurers Won’t Cover Marijuana Treatment

Health insurers in the US won’t cover marijuana treatment despite ample evidence of it’s efficacy in treating various conditions such as seizures in epilepsy, and pain relief in cancer.

Thanks to heavy media coverage from the media doctors, such as, CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who did a series on marijuana, it’s gaining wider acceptance in mainstream medicine. However, health insurers balk at covering it because of conflicting laws. Though 21 states have approved marijuana’s use as medicine, other states still deem it to be illegal. The biggest hurdle is that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved it yet.

Patients are trying to figure out ways to get the drug cheaply, by trying to grow it or by getting it from government-approved dispensaries. More….
