How to Cool Your Tongue after Eating Chilli-Hot Food

If you like to eat hot, spicy food, but can’t always handle the heat, hear’s how you can cool your tongue.

Drinking a glass of milk is a great way to cool your burning tongue. This remedy goes back thousands of years, and it works. Milk contains a protein, cassein, which breaks down the bonds that capsaicin in chillies forms on nerve receptors. Plain yogurt is another good remedy, especially after eating hot Indian food.

Alcohol can also temporarily cool your tongue. Eating a little sugar can help neutralize the effect of chillies. Sugar and honey are a good remedy.

Munching on a piece of milk chocolate might provide some relief as well – again the fats and cassein in the milk help reduce the stinging effect of hot chillies on your tongue. Bread and rice can also help. More….
