Servings: 4
Cooking Time: 15-20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 cups idli batter
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 1 cup onions, finely chopped
  • 1-2 tbsp cilantro (coriander leaves), finely chopped

  • Salt to taste
  • Vegetable oil for deep-frying

Preparation

  1. Heat the the oil for deep-frying, preferably in a medium or large pan, so you can fry larger batches of the fritters to save time.
  2. In a bowl, mix the idli batter with the flour, onions, chillies or chilli powder, salt, and cilantro.
  3. Take a tablespoon, and drop spoonfuls of the batter into the oil and fry until golden. Drain excess oil on a paper towel and serve the idli-batter fritters plain or with a chutney of your choice and a cup of hot tea or coffee.
