Infant Contracts Measles

| February 2, 2015 Comment

Infant Contracts Measles – The latest case of measles in California is a baby who is less then a year old.

The baby is enrolled in the Santa Monica High School Infant Toddler Center for day care, which has now been closed. The baby is too young to receive the mumps, measles and rubella booster vaccinesvaccine (MMR). Fourteen other babies in the center have been placed in quarantine for the next three weeks. The school is asking parents to keep an eye on any signs of measles in their children.

Measles is a highly contagious disease and is so even before symptoms appear. There are 90 confirmed cases of measles in California; the problem has been partly exacerbated by parents refusing to vaccinate their children because of fears that the vaccines may cause autism, which has been disproved by several studies. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends immunizing children against contagious diseases at high rates to prevent widespread outbreaks.
