Intsant Noodles Linked to Metabolic Syndrome in Women
Instant noodles have been linked to metabolic syndrome in women. A study showed that the easy, two-minute noodle meals can increase the risk in Korean women; men were not affected.
Metabolic syndrome includes a whole host of medical conditions such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar, obesity, and high cholesterol, which can increase the risk for heart attack, stroke, and diabetes.
Researchers from Harvard and a Korean university surveyed and analyzed over ten thousand adults aged 19 through 64. The survey included questions on their daily diet, and identified two categories of diet: the traditional one which included rice, fish, fruit and vegetables, and the meat and fast food diet which included meat, fried foods and instant foods like the instant noodles.
The study found that women on the instant food diet had higher levels of abdominal obesity, higher cholesterol and triglycerides. More….
