Less Salt Intake Helped Reduce Stroke Deaths in UK

A study that surveyed thousands of UK residents, found that their salt consumption had reduced by 15%, from 2003 to 2011, and during that time, the number of deaths from heart disease fell by 40%, and stroke by 42%. The study also found that during the study period, there were improvements in cholesterol and blood pressure, increased consumption of fruits and vegetables, and decrease in smoking.

Researchers pointed out that salt consumption is still too high among 70% of adults in the UK, and that most of the salt comes from processed foods. Programs to reduce salt intake have certainly helped, but more needs to be done. More….
