McDonald’s French Fries Contain 19 Ingredients – Did you know that McDonald’s popular French fries contain 19 ingredients?

If you’re wondering if McDonald’s fries contain any potatoes, they do. In an attempt to be more transparent about its food and to dispel rumors about it’s popular items, McDonald’s gave a fries tour to former MythBusters star, Grant Imahara.

The ingredients contain several oils as well as a whole host of chemicals and preservatives added for various reasons. Vegetable oil is used for frying, which is a blend of 7 ingredients, including: canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), citric acid, and dimethylpolysiloxane.

Chemicals are added to enhance flavor, to prevent oil from foaming and splattering, to prevent potatoes from going gray. For instance, dextrose is added to maintain the golden color of the fries and sodium acid pyrophosphate to control graying that occurs after after freezing the fries. Citric acid is used as a preservative.

Some point out that Dimethylpolysiloxane that the fast-food chain uses as an anti-foaming agent is an industrial chemical typically used in caulking and sealants and comes with a list of safety concerns.

The potato fries are partially fried and re-fried in the restaurant later. The double frying process makes them crisp and crunchy.
