Melinda Gates Puts Vaccines in Perspective

| January 26, 2015 Comment

Melinda Gates Puts Vaccines in Perspective – Bill Gates’ wife said in an interview with The Huffington Post that Americans take vaccines for granted because we haven’t seen death from unavailability of vaccines and other medicines that the developing countries have to face every day.

Melinda points out that in developing countries, women would walk with their children 10 kilometers to get the vaccine. The comment came in response to the recent measles outbreak in California. Many in the medical community attribute the outbreak to those who have not been immunized. The so-called “vaccine naysayers” are weakening the immunity of the community and country as a whole by not vaccinating their children against life-threatening diseases like mumps, measles, and rubella (MMR) because they believe that vaccines can cause autism.

According to pediatric disease expert James Cherry, the current measles outbreak is a “100% connected ” to the anti-vaccine movement. If every American is vaccinated against infectious diseases, they would not spread even if foreign travelers came into the country with the disease. Those who are not vaccinated put babies, young children and older people with weak immune systems at risk.
