More Adult Women Being Diagnosed with ADHD

More adult women are being diagnosed with ADHD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, a new study shows. According to the study, the use of ADHD medications among women aged 24-36 increased by 85% between 2008 and 2012.

Experts believe that this increase may be because women are not likely to be diagnosed in childhood as many of them don’t exhibit the typical symptoms. They manage to somehow cope with makeshift strategies, but as they become adults and their responsibilities increase, they find it difficult to manage the condition on their own.

Women with undiagnosed ADHD tend to experience divorce, unemployment, and a poor sense of self. Experts recommend a multifpronged approach to treat ADHD. While medications can help, counseling needs to be an integral part of of treatment, as it can help women better understand and manage their ADHD. Yoga and meditation, and  a healthy diet can also help. More….
