More NJ Schools Join Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

Five more new Jersey schools have joined the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program that was started by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) in 2002 to encourage kids to eat healthy.

There are already 150 New Jersey schools participating in the program that will provide fresh fruits and veggies to students every day, and also provide nutrition education programs to help them develop healthy eating habits.

To participate in the program, schools must have at least 50% of students who are eligible for free or reduced-cost lunch, make it available to all students, publicize the program, and buy locally grown produce. More….
