More than Five Cups of Coffee a Day May Be Dangerous to Health – The European Safety Authority analyzed all the evidence for and against caffeine and came to the conclusion that people should limit their coffee consumption 400 mg a day or about five cups. Safe levels of caffeine for kids and pregnant women are much lower.

People who consume more than five cups of coffee (or any drink containing caffeine, such as tea, chocolate, energy drinks and soft drinks) a day may be endangering their health. Studies have linked excess coffee drinking to heart problems, insomnia and panic attacks.

Other health issues linked to excess caffeine are ncreased heart rate, higher blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, and tremors. Some studies have shown that high consumption of unfiltered coffee (boiled or espresso) may slightly increase in cholesterol levels. Other studies show that in some people who cannot metabolize coffee quickly, it may increase the risk of heart disease.

The safe caffeine limit for pregnant women is 200 mg a day, while for kids it is 3 mg per kilogram of weight.
