Muscle strength and healthy aging go hand in hand, as strong muscles can prevent frailty, falls, and the need for hospitalization and long-term care.

According to experts, we start losing muscle mass after the age of forty, and people with sedentary lifestyles are likely to do so at a faster rate. Loss of muscle mass, quality, and strength is known as sarcopenia and is caused by several factors, including reduction in testosterone in men.

While researchers and pharmaceutical companies are trying to develop treatments that can block the protein, myostatin, that prevents muscle growth, according to experts, exercise and a healthy diet are the easiest and least expensive ways to maintain muscle mass and strength as we age.
