New FDA Warning against Aspirin for Preventing Heart Disease
The US Federal Drug Administration (FDA), has issued a new warning against aspirin.
For years patients at risk of cardiovascular disease have been advised to take aspirin to prevent it. Now the FDA says that those who haven’t experienced a cardiovascular event or symptoms of the disease should not take aspirin as it can cause stomach and brain bleeds. Aspirin may be beneficial only in cases where patients have already had a stroke or heart attack.
FDA’s statement was issued to prevent aspirin-maker, Bayer AG, from marketing the drug as a heart attack prevention drug for those who don’t have heart problems. More….
