New Obesity Guidelines from British Health Institute

The British National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has come up with new obesity guidelines, as research shows that if obese people can lose and keep even a small amount of weight off over the long term, it could improve their health overall, apart from reducing healthcare costs.

The number of obese people in the UK is growing, with a quarter of all adults classified as clinically obese.

Though most people know that losing weight is all about eating less and being physically active, many find it difficult to put into practice, and NICE thinks that general practitioners should identify patients who would benefit from additional support from weight-loss programs that can help them keep the weight off.

Obesity can lead to other serious diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers, and even a small weight-loss can make a bi difference to health. More….
