Oil-Pulling: The New Fad

Oil-pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice, which involves swishing any cooking oil in your mouth for 20 minutes, first thing in the morning, for various health benefits, includinng whiter teeth, fresher breath, stronger gums and jaws. This early-morning ritual seems to be gaining popularity, and its advocates claim that it can also clear your sinuses and your skin, and may even protect against heart disease and Alzheimer’s.

Research from 2008 and 2009 shows that oil pulling can prevent dental plaque from forming, especially when it’s done with coconut oil. There aren’t too many well-run clinical trials to substantiate other claims, some experts say. Obviously, more research is needed. More….
