DO exfoliate BEFORE your session. Guys, we’re talking to you, too. Exfoliating clears the pores of excess oil and dead skin, helping the wax better grip the hair, reducing pain and ensuring smooth results.

Just be sure to steer clear of astringents or toners, which will tighten the pores, creating a firmer hold on the hair follicle.

DO take some pain medication, such as ibuprofen, beforehand. Not only will it reduce the inevitable swelling, but it’ll reduce the pain, too.

What you DON’T want to use is ice. It may numb you now, but will ultimately cause your pores to tighten.

And pass on that pre-waxing cup of coffee. Caffeine can actually INCREASE the skin’s sensitivity.
