Probiotics and Blood Pressure

Latest research shows that probiotics can help lower blood pressure.

In an Australian study, people who consumed beneficial bacteria in the form of yogurt or probiotic supplements, reduced their systolic blood pressure (the top number) by 3.56 mm, and their diastolic blood pressure (the lower number) by an average of 2.38 mm than participants who didn’t consume probiotics.

The blood pressure reduction numbers were similar to ones seen in studies where people reduced their salt intake to less than 2,000 milligrams a day, and those who took up a regular strength-training program.

Foods high in healthy bacteria include yogurt, cheese, and fermented dairy products. The data also showed that participants needed to consume these probiotics for at least eight weeks to see any reduction in their blood pressure.
