Prostate Cancer Striking Earlier

A new study by University of Michigan researchers shows that prostate cancer is striking earlier, affecting men under the age of 55.

The number of prostate cancer cases among younger men has increased over the past two decades. This cancer also seems to progress at a faster, more aggressive rate. The current screening methods don’t seem to help detect this type of cancer, as the tumors often outpace any symptoms.

The study suggests that this form of prostate cancer may be a new subtype of the more common one seen in older men and its treatment may require more advanced screening techniques and expertise, including genetic sequencing. More….
