Quick Weight Loss May Cause Muscle Loss

Quick weight loss may cause muscle loss, according to new research.

Researchers looked at study participants who went on a diet of only 500 calories a day for 5 weeks, and those who went on a 1,250 calories a day for 12 weeks. Participants on the very low calorie diet lost 3.5 pounds of muscle mass, while those on the higher-calorie diet lost only 1.3 pounds of muscle mass. This suggests that it might be better to lose weight more slowly.
