Rash from iPads

An 11-year-old boy was treated for a rash that he got from his iPad recently, and there have been other reports about electronic devices including laptops and cell phones causing a rash. These devices contain nickel, and if you’re allergic to the metal, it may cause an itchy body rash.

Though not life-threatening, the rash can be uncomfortable, and may need to be treated with steroids and antibiotics if the eruptions become infected.

Doctors who tested the iPad device found nickel compounds in the outside coating, and recommended putting a protective case when using it. According to them, nickel allergies are becoming more common than they were a decade ago. About 25% of children who get a rash, get it from nickel. More….
