Second American Ebola Patient Arrives in Atlanta for Treatment
Second American Ebola patient arrives in Atlanta for treatment – The medical plane carrying missionary Nancy Writebol touched down at Dobbin Air Reserve base in Marietta, Georgia, just before noon. It was the end of a long flight from Liberia.
Ill with the deadly Ebola virus, Writebol was taken to Emory University Hospital, where she’ll get further treatment in a special isolation ward.
Ebola has killed nearly 900 people since February. It has no proven cure.
Writebol’s arrival comes days after U.S. doctor Kent Brantly returned home. He’s also receiving treatment at Emory.
Brantly and Writebol both became infected while working at a Monrovia treatment center. Their conditions improved in Liberia after receiving an experimental drug previously tested only on monkeys.
Brantly is now reported to be in good spirits. The condition of Writebol, a mother of two from Charlotte, is described as serious.
