Sedentary Lifestyle Deadlier than Obesity – A sedentary lifestyle can cause  twice as many early deaths as obesity, according to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Research showed that even a 20-minute brisk walk every day can reduce the risk of premature death in all weight categories, normal, overweight, and obese. Even small increments of physical activity can provide huge health benefits in inactive people, points out lead author Ulf Ekelund, a senior investigator scientist in the Medical Research Council Epidemiology Unit at the University of Cambridge.

Researchers gathered data from 334,00 men and women and followed them over a period of 12 years and measured height, weight, waist circumference and self-reported levels of physical activity. Researchers found that a moderate amount of physical activity was vital to preventing premature death,

Aerobic exercise improves health by kick-starting the body’s immune system and also improves cognitive function, and reduces the risk of heart disease and cancer.
