Spanish Nurse Is Released from Madrid Hospital after Beating Ebola

Spanish nurse is released from Madrid hospital after beating Ebola – Spanish nurse Teresa Romero received cheers of support as she faced the media in the Madrid hospital where she was treated for Ebola.

Virus-free and in recovery, she has now been discharged and expressed her hopes to return to a normal life.

The first person to catch Ebola outside West Africa, she was accused by Spanish authorities of not following protocol, but her colleagues say the government was not prepared for the outbreak.

Reading out a written statement, Romero gave her side of the story:

“I don’t know what went wrong, I don’t even know if something did go wrong. The only thing I know is that I don’t hold any grudges, but if my infection could help to investigate the illness and could help to find a vaccine or if my blood could be used to heal someone else, then I’m ready to help.”

Along with her husband, Romero has voiced criticism of the political handling of her case.

In particular, the couple complained over the order to put down their dog against the advice of experts and a petition from the public.

Her case will now be taken up by her lawyers, and she said she will be getting a puppy to replace Excalibur.
