Stephen Colbert Says Goodbye to TV, for Now

Stephen Colbert Says Goodbye to TV, for Now – The final episode of ‘The Colbert Report’ aired Thursday night. But this isn’t the last we’ll be seeing of Stephen Colbert.

Thursday night marked the very last episode of “The Colbert Report.” And Stephen Colbert bid farewell to his faithful audience the only way he knew how — with an epic song.

“They’ll be happy to know that as you saw me go, I was singing this song. We’ll meet again.”(Video via Comedy Central / “The Colbert Report”)

Yes, Colbert belted out “We’ll Meet Again” with dozens of celebrities, including Jon Stewart, Cyndi Lauper, Willie Nelson and even Cookie Monster and Big Bird.

And he ended the show by flying off to immortality in Santa’s sleigh, thanking everyone who helped make “The Colbert Report” possible during its nine-year run.

Yeah, it was kind of strange, but we didn’t expect anything less from our favorite fake pundit.

But, as we all know, this isn’t the last we’ll be seeing of Stephen Colbert.

He’s set to take David Letterman’s spot on the “Late Show” sometime next year. Letterman will officially retire from the show May 30, but it’s still unclear when Colbert will take over. (Video via CBS / “Late Show”)

Still, this is most likely the end of the ultra-conservative alter ego we’ve come to know as Stephen Colbert over the years.

But a writer for The Hollywood Reporter argues the end of that persona won’t mean the end of Colbert.“Colbert has a lightning storm of reactive synapses blowing up in his brain. He’s going to turn that into something brilliant and funny when he takes over the Late Show. So no, tonight is not an ending. It’s another beginning.”

Well, here’s to new beginnings, Mr. Colbert!
