Study Suggests Exercise Can Actually Improve Your DNA – A new study suggests that exercise can actually improve your DNA, including your metabolism, insulin response, and inflammation in muscles.

Exercising more is one of the most popular new year’s resolutions and now there’s a new incentive to keep your goals. A study done at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, discovered that certain genes turn on or off as a result of exercise. It’s a process called DNA methylation.

The scientists recruited 22 men and women that had to do a series of physical performances and medical examinations, including a muscle biopsy. According to an article in the New York Times, most of the genes they studied played a role in energy metabolism, insulin response and inflammation in muscles. The scientists concluded that after physical activity, changes occurred in the DNA that resulted in improvement in the quality of life.
