Everybody has sweet cravings. We have more sweet taste buds on our tongue than any other kind. The reason for that is while we were evolving as humans, we had to use our taste buds to find foods that weren’t going to kill us. So, we’re going to crave some foods.

To satisfy your sweet cravings, you can fruits and certain vegetables. Some low-glycemic sweet fruits are plums, pears, grapes, and berries.

Raw sugar is a healthy alternative to regular sugar. It’s better to make your coffee and add some raw sugar than getting a cappuccino, as it’ll contain a lot less sugar.

Another healthy sugar substitute is stevia or sweet leaf. Basically, they are sweeteners that are made from the herb, stevia, which is much sweeter than regular cane sugar, but is very low-glycemic – it doesn’t spike your blood sugar.

Stevia has been used for hundreds of years as a sweetener and medicine in South America. Stevia, however, is not great for baking.

Another sweetener that is healthy is xylitol, which is found in gum, and is good for your teeth.

Xylitol is low-glycemic and helps prevent tooth decay. Xylitol is actually sugar alchol, and if you have too much of it, you may get gassy. Xylitol is a good sugar substitute in baking.

Honey’s another great sugar substitute and depending on the kind of honey, it can offer some nutritional benefits.

Blackstrap molasses are another sweetener that is high in calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron.
