Texas Nurse Who Contracted Ebola Identified; Dog Will Not Be Euthanized – Unlike Spanish authorities who euthanized a nurse’s dog last week, officials are saying they will not put the dog of Nina Pham down.

Family members of Nina Pham, the nurse who tested positive for Ebola released her name. She’s the first person to contract Ebola in the United States. Her dog, however, will not be euthanized.

Dallas Mayor, Mike Rawlings told USA Today that the dog remained in the healthcare worker’s apartment when she was hospitalized and will soon be sent to a new location to await her owner’s recovery, saying,”The dog’s very important to the patient and we want it to be safe.”

Pham is 26 years old and is from Fort Worth, Texas, and she was one of the team of medical staff that Taxas Health Presbyterian Hospital who treated the first Ebola victim, Thomas Duncan, who died on US soil.

Last week, animal rights activists protested in Spain, after the the dog of a nurse infected with Ebola virus was put down.
