The Right Foods for Glaucoma

A new study shows that eating the right foods can help reduce the risk for glaucoma and help people maintain their eyesight for a longer time. Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in adults, and is caused by an increased pressure in the eye which damages the lens of the eye. Glaucoma is treated with eye drops and marijuana. Eating the right diet can help.

According to research, reducing salt intake is beneficial as salt increases blood pressure and intra-occular pressure in the eyes that can lead to glaucoma. Intake of foods rich in retinol, a form of vitamin A, can also help reduce the risk for glaucoma. These foods include milk, cheese, and butter.

Researchers also found that cruciferous vegetables like cabbage and green leafy vegetables, carrots, orange colored fruits and vegetables like apricots, green and black tea, dark chocolate, and nuts are all beneficial for glaucoma as they contain antioxidants, flavonols, and omega-3 fatty acids.
