‘Tomorrowland’ Tops Box Office – According to Rentrak estimates, Disney’s fantasy adventure “Tomorrowland” topped the slow Memorial Day weekend box office with an estimated $41.7 million debut from its first four days in theaters.
The Brad Bird-directed family film starring George Clooney cost a reported $180 million to produce and was expected to earn somewhere in the $50 million range over the holiday weekend, which is down significantly from last year.
The movie is about a former boy genius (George Clooney) and a gifted teenager (Britt Robertson) who try to unearth the secrets of “Tomorrowland,” located between time and space.
Meanwhile, “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” took the third- and fourth-place spots, while Fox’s “Poltergeist” remake debuted in fifth place, with an estimated $26.5 million.
