US Adults Eat Most of the Food on Their Plates

| July 25, 2014 Comment

Cornell University researchers analyzed 14 studies and found that US adults eat most of the food on their plates – that’s 92% of food, compared to adults in countries like Canada, France, and The Netherlands.

Researchers also found that people who were distracted ate less, only 82% of what was on their plates, and this number was the same for men and women. They also ate more food during meals than snacks. Also, people who served themselves, tended to eat all of it than those who were served by someone else.

An encouraging finding was that people who served themselves healthy meals – more fruits and vegetables, also ate more than those eating less healthy food. Researchers say that knowing that you’re likely to eat all the food on your plate can help you pay more attention to portion sizes.

The results were published in the International Journal of ObesityMore….
