Vitamin D May Help Increase Lifespan in Colon Cancer Patients
Vitamin D May Help Increase Lifespan in Colon Cancer Patients – According to Harvard Medical School researchers, patients who had higher levels of vitamin D had better chances of survival than those who had the lowest levels, and progression of the disease slowed considerably.
Patients with high levels of vitamin D survived an average of 32.6 months, while those with low levels survived for 24. 5 months. However, researchers caution that patients should not try to increase their vitamin D levels beyond the normal range.
According to experts at the American Cancer Society, while vitamin D may improve the outcome for some colon cancer patients, none of the studies have shown a cause and effect relationship.
The study is to be presented at the Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium in San Francisco this week.
