Whole Foods to Stop Selling Produce Grown in Biosludge

Whole Foods has decided to stop selling produce grown in biosledge, thanks to the efforts of a North Carolina engineer, who discovered that the store had a ‘don’t ask, don’t tell” policy about how its conventional (non-organic) produce is grown.

In the US, non-organic produce can be legally grown in biosludge or human waste solids which contain, apart from feces, contaminants like pharmaceutical drugs, chemical solvents, bacteria, and heavy metals. All these can be absorbed by the produce.

Reports indicate that Whole Foods plans to come up with a new rating system for its produce based on pest-management practices, farm labor welfare, pollinator protection, water conservation, soil health, and other factors. More….
