Winter Blues Busters – Health coach Carey Peters gives host Judy Greer five simple remedies for the winter blues. Some of her top tips: Get outside. Fresh air (even if it’s cold) and light (even if skies are overcast) will help offset lower melatonin levels that can cause some depression.

No. 4 on her list may make you blush: Sex. “Anything that gets you moving,” Peters says, can help boost your mood.

The five remedies for winter blues are:

  • Outdoor activities
  • Sun lamp
  • Vitamin D
  • Sex
  • Bright flattering clothes

When circadian rhythm is disrupted, sleeping and eating patterns can run amok. Getting a sun lamp that has UV rays. Light therapy lamps sell for about $30 and up. Turn on the light ans sit in front of it for 15 to 20 minutes a day.

Vitamin D is a vitamin and a hormone so it’s believed to affect your mood. Vitamin D is produced by our bodies when exposed to sunlight. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium from food.

Get yourself checked for your vitamin D levels with a simple blood test and have your doctor determine if you need a vitamin D supplement.

Hormones and endorphins released during sex promote sleep and improve mood.

Wearing brightly colored clothes can cheer you up.
