Young Women in Worse Shape after Heart Attack Than Men

Young women are in worse shape after a heart attack than men, according to a new report presented at an American Heart Association session.

After studying medical records and interviewing over 3,000 patients, researchers found that women aged 55 and younger are more likely to have poor physical and mental functioning ability, more chest pain, worse physical limitations, and a low quality of life.

Other studies have shown that women have greater preexisting risk factors which may contribute to the adverse consequences after the heart attacks. Other reasons they fare worse could be socio-demographic, biological, and clinical, including undetected chest pain and more work/life responsibilities. More….
